Over 30% of all road accidents in India are hit-and-run cases but sadly out of this only 10% of road accident drivers are booked. In Odisha also, Road accident statistics shows that near about 20% of the road accidents are Hit & Run cases. “Hit & Run Motor accident” is defined as an accident arising out of the use of a motor vehicle or motor vehicles, the identity whereof cannot be ascertained in spite of reasonable efforts for the purpose.
For providing compensation for the victims of the Hit &Run road accident cases, Govt. of Odisha has established a scheme named “Solatium Fund”. As per the scheme the road accident victims or the legal heirs of the victim are eligible for the compensation of Rs 2,00,000/- and Rs 50,000/- in case of death or grievous injury respectively.
