HMV DTI,Chhatia is a joint venture project in collaboration with M/s Ashok Leyland Ltd. and Govt. of Odisha and MoA between the above two parties has been signed on 22/12/2011 and it is known as “Society for Govt. of Odisha-Ashok Leyland HMV Drivers Training Institute” for imparting quality HMV driving training to the eligible candidates i.e. LMV drivers with minimum of one year of LMV Driving experience and minimum age of 20 years. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India & Commerce & Transport (Transport) Department, Govt. of Odisha have funded for the Infrastructure of the Institute. The Institute is situated on a 43.5 Acres of land.

It has an Administrative Building, a Hostel for 150 candidates & a Canteen in addition to 4.7 kms. of Driving Track, constructed by R & B ,Jajpur as per guidance of CIRT, Pune. M/s Ashok Leyland Ltd. has provided 4 nos. of Trucks, 2 Buses & One Tipper designated for Driving Training. Besides these 5 nos of LMV vehicle are also available for training. Besides one BS6 Tipper is also received recently. The Institute has engaged 16 nos. of Trainers for Training. The salary of the Principal is being paid by M/s Ashok Leyland whereas the salary of the staff & trainers is being paid by the Society. The Institute commenced its training during the month of March, 2012. It provides one month residential HMV Driving Training.

The funding for Driving Training is done by:

• Transport Dept. through Transport Commissioner of Odisha, Cuttack which in turn is released to the HMV Driver Training institute, Chhatia, Jajpur, through Principal, Govt.DTS, Bhubaneswar for STA sponsored HMV Training programme & OSEMs/OSDA through Principal, Govt. DTS, Bhubaneswar w.e.f. the year 2015-16,2016-17,17-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20 for OSEMs/OSDA sponsored HMV Driving Training Programme and sponsored LMV Driving Training Programme from 2019-20.
• Recently as per Order No. 14/TC Dt-01/01/2021 JCTT-cum-Principal Govt DTS designated as Licencing Authority for Society For Govt. of Odisha- Ashok Leyland HMV Driver Training Institute, Chhatia.

FAQ's

I. What are the objectives of the institute?

• Develop Sector Specific Skills of Rural Youth towards making them employable /self employed
• Develop fresh cadre of high quality drivers to meet the demand of Driving professionals
• Inculcate the Traffic Discipline
• Instill Good Driving Practices resulting in reduction of Fuel consumption to Save Petroleum Products
• Improve the Road Safety awareness thereby reduce accidents
• Enhance the social status of drivers in the society
• Contribute in the country’s overall economy

The Institute is imparting Heavy & Light Motor Vehicle Driver training to the unemployed youth of Odisha. The Govt. funded training program is totally sponsored by Govt. of Odisha through the office of the State Transport Authority, Cuttack, Odisha funded scheme and Odisha State Employment mission funded scheme. Apart from this any eligible candidate also can take LMV & HMV training on payment basis. Till date the Institute has offered refresher Training on Fuel saving, Road Rule Regulation and safe driving to Odisha State Road Transport Corporation Drivers, Corporate Customers and walk-in customers at a nominal cost and most of them have already got employed in Govt. sectors & Private sectors. As on 31st March 2021, A total of 23120 students have passed out from this institute since its inception.

II. Which type of trainings are available in the institute?

HMV/LMV Fresher Training for beginners

• 30 days HMV Training
• 21 days LMV Training

Refresher Training for experienced drivers

• 1 day/ 3 days / 1 week / 2 weeks LMV/HMV refresher training on defensive driving, accident prevention and fuel saving techniques

Safe Transportation of Hazardous Goods (as per rule 9)

• 3 days basic training for first time DL endorsement
• 1-day refresher training for DL Renewal

III. Who is eligible for the training?

LMV – those who have attained the age of 18 years and above and BPL (Ration Card holder)/ SC/ST/ Women candidates for Govt. sponsored training with minimum height 5 feet & age 18 to 35 years. HMV – those who have attained the age of 20 years and above and holding a valid LMV license for the last one year. For Govt. sponsored candidates’ age 20 to 35 years with height 5 feet 4 inch. Refresher – those who have a valid LMV/HMV license

IV. Is this training at free of cost?

Yes, it is free in case of LMV & HMV Training candidates sponsored by the Govt. of Odisha who are residents of Odisha and It is on chargeable basis for the other than the sponsored candidates.

V. What is the duration of various training?

LMV- 21 days

HMV- 30 days

Refresher training- 2weeks, 1week, 3days, 2 days & 1-day

VI. What is the fee structure of different courses of training (other than Govt. sponsored candidates)?

21 days LMV Fresher- Rs 3814/- (plus Hostel Fee - Rs 3780/-)

30 days HMV Fresher- Rs 11000/- (plus Hostel Fee - Rs 5400/-)

Refresher training- transportation of hazardous goods: 3 days - Rs 1695/-
transportation of hazardous goods: 1day - Rs 500/-

Defensive driving and accident prevention: 2days - Rs 1000/-

GST is extra- (18% on Training fee & 5% on Hostel fee)

Yes, every month about 4-5 logistic companies, transporters visit the institutes to conduct the campus interviews and select the passed out candidates for their employment.
